Alex Alvarez Rivas, MSW, LCSW

I am a bilingual and bicultural Latina therapist specializing in providing multicultural, trauma-informed, strength-based care.

I am originally from Caracas, Venezuela and grew up in Maryland/DC before moving to Chapel Hill for college and graduate school. Along the way, I studied to become a clinical social worker and yoga teacher. Being a social worker means that I find strengths in everyone, and that I believe in social justice to my core. Being a yoga teacher means that I practice mindfulness, breath, and movement in my own life and in therapy work.

I always knew that I wanted to be a therapist, and it is a dream to have been practicing for the last 5 years. I bring openness, empathy, and laughter into my sessions and am committed to practicing through an anti-oppressive and affirming lens. I am committed to providing inclusive and supportive mental health care to traditionally underserved clients, including those with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ identities. I am here as a facilitator to support you in finding joy, managing the challenges that exist in your world, and feeling like yourself. I hope that by working together, we can find creative and uniquely tailored ways to reach your personal goals and achieve well-being in a sustainable way.
